Pathways Through Nature

Journey into a deeper appreciation of nature with Fontenelle Forest’s new series, Pathways Through Nature! Bring your partner or some friends to this program, and embrace your inner naturalist as you explore a different topic at each session.

Each of the six sessions will include an educational presentation and an activity.

This program is geared towards adults 18 and older.

February 8: Squeakhearts: Animals in Love

Love is in the air! Join us as we learn about some of the most interesting (and wild) mating rituals of animals! We will also be creating personalized Valentine’s Day cards for those you love.

April 25: Midwest’s Native Wildflowers

April showers bring May flowers! The Forest and prairies are filled with wildflowers of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Come learn about the species you can see in Nebraska throughout the year and take some home to plant in your own garden.

June 6: Muck and Marsh

Marshes, swamps and bogs -oh my! Explore the parts of our planet where land meets water. We’ll learn about all the plants and animals that make these unique ecosystems their home! This program includes some hands-on wetland water exploration, so dress to get wet.

August 8: Our Backyard Bugs

Creeping, crawling, fluttering, flying; insects come in all shapes and sizes and have adapted to a variety of environments. Learn about some of the bugs that you can potentially find in your own backyard. We’ll also create an insect themed art piece to take home.

October 10: Nebraska’s Natural History

Did you know that Midwest hasn’t always been a prairie? Discover the natural history of Nebraska along with some of the fascinating animals that once roamed here. We’ll also explore history, science and art by cracking geodes during this program!

December 12: The Sky Above Us

Have you ever looked to the sky and wondered what was out there? Explore the stars while learning about the constellations, comets and meteors that we can see from our little slice of the universe. Dress warm, for winter stargazing from Dennis Plaza.

Did you know? Fontenelle Forest is a 501c3 private, nonprofit that owns Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, and Neale Woods Nature Reserve in Omaha. We work hard to protect and conserve over 2,100 acres and 24 miles of trails for current and future generations to explore and enjoy. Founded in 1913, Fontenelle Forest is one of Nebraska’s oldest conservation organizations and one of the largest private nature centers in the nation.
