Summer camps

Surrounded by nature, campers dive into the unknown and have adventures that develop great life skills and a life-long love for the natural world.

Just minutes from downtown Omaha, Fontenelle Forest campers experience a wild summer outdoors!

At Fontenelle Forest, we believe that today’s children are tomorrow’s stewards and strive to foster a love of our local land and ecosystems vital to our survival. Our staff is committed to providing your child with high quality, positive outdoor experiences for children of all ages.

Surrounded by nature, campers dive into the unknown and have adventures that develop great life skills and a life-long love for the natural world. We are excited to offer another summer of amazing experiences here at Fontenelle Forest.

Parents love our camps because they bring children together with nature
and teach them an appreciation for the world around them.

“This place is childhood at its best. A true place for children to be children.
The counselors are so great at creating a space for creativity and exploration”
– 2019 Summer Camp Parent
I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. It is how summers should be spent. It shows kids that computers and TV is not needed to have fun. My child was so peaceful every day when I showed up – looking for rolly-polly bugs. The counselors were amazing and so personable. I loved knowing that my child was in this place while I had to work, spending her summer with nature.”– 2019 Summer Camp Parent

VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMPS (JUNE)

VIRTUAL CAMPS

Experience interactive, hands-on exploration around your home or in your own greenspace, with live Zoom virtual camp sessions and nature-based activities to keep young naturalists busy and engaged.

All of the FUN, none of the poison ivy!

In light of local health guidelines, Fontenelle Nature Camp will be going online for the first 4 weeks of summer camps, June 1 – June 26. Our virtual camps aim to remain as true to the spirit of summer camp as possible while ensuring the safety of our campers!

As with any of our camps, Fontenelle Nature Camp will provide fun and engaging nature-themed adventures designed to foster the development of great life skills and a life-long love for the natural world, through the exploration of your own green space. We will provide daily Zoom meetings, ideas and prompts for outside time, green space exploration, and additional resources and activities to keep young naturalists busy and engaged!

What does our virtual Fontenelle Nature Camp include?

We understand that summer camps are valued because kids are able to get away from screens, go outside, and do what kids are supposed to do: explore, ask questions, get dirty, and socialize. Our goal is to connect our campers and foster friendships, encourage embracing the natural world, and create a nature-based virtual learning experience that is fun and interactive.

Daily Camp Themes

Our virtual camp will have a different theme every day, with two Zoom sessions from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Campers will be split into two separate Zoom sessions by age – a group from ages 6-8 and a group from ages 9-12. You will be emailed a Zoom link based on your campers’ age the Sunday before camp starts with instructions on how to access these sessions.

Camp-on-the-go Bags

We will provide camp bags available for pick up from the week before your camp starts. Our all-natural jute bags are filled to the brim with tools and materials your camper needs to explore their green space to the fullest!

Our Fontenelle Forest camp bags include:

  • A packet of daily themes, activities, and craft instructions
  • A labeled bag with materials for the daily craft
  • Camp song lyrics
  • A camp t-shirt
  • An empty journal and colored pencils
  • Exploration tools: Magnifying glasses, binoculars, an insect jar, and more!

Camp Schedule

Our days will start with a 10:00 a.m. live Zoom session with one of our Camp Counselors. These will consist of a discussion of our daily theme, a camp song, and a themed activity or craft. Our next Zoom session will be at 2:00 p.m. with another themed activity or craft, and some time for some journal reflection. Each day will have a laminated sheet with information about our theme, craft instructions, activity suggestions, and additional resources that encourage further exploration.
