Get ready for a wild time with Patrick Conner, Fontenelle Forest’s animal care specialist! Join us in the Nature Center’s Great Hall to get up close and personal with some of our amazing education animals. From slithery snakes to ornate box turtles, we’ll feature a different species each month.
Do you have burning questions or want to snap a selfie with our scaly friends? Bring it on, Patrick will answer all of your questions about these critters!

Speckled kingsnakes are not picky eaters! These fearless serpents have a reputation for eating other snakes, including venomous ones like rattlesnakes and copperheads. |
June 8: Ornate Box Turtles |
Join us for a meet n’ greet with Nebraska’s state reptile, the ornate box turtle! Did you know these turtles each have their own unique shell pattern? Be sure to check out their shells in person!

July 13: Tiger Salamanders |
Did you know that these colorful critters have the ability to regenerate lost body parts? If a tiger salamander loses a limb, it can often regrow it back!

August 10: Fox Snake |
Fox snakes aren’t just masters of the land—they’re also quite the climbers and swimmers! These agile reptiles can slither up trees with surprising ease, using their muscles and scales to grip onto branches.
