Discover the Forest

Fontenelle Forest has two great locations with a combined 2,100 acres and 24 miles of trails, both just minutes from downtown Omaha. Whether you’re an experienced hiker looking for a new adventure, or you’re looking for an opportunity for your whole family to enjoy time exploring the outdoors, we have trails and activities for nature lovers of all ages and abilities!

Just a few minutes south of the zoo and downtown Omaha.

Explore 1,500 acres of land and 17 miles of maintained trails at Fontenelle Forest. Walking our trails is an experience unlike any other in the Omaha metro area. Observe wildlife and enjoy scenic views of the Missouri River while strolling Fontenelle Forest’s one-mile, ADA-accessible boardwalk. Or, venture onto dirt trails of varying terrain for a more immersive experience. Enjoy programs and events for all ages.

Restrooms and water fountains are available inside the Nature Center. Open daily, year-round.

Neale Woods is a 560-acre conservation area featuring seven miles of maintained trails. Home to abundant plants and wildlife, Neale Woods offers a hiking experience that is truly unique to any other in the greater Omaha metro area. In a single afternoon, you can encounter a range of vastly different ecosystems, from deciduous forest to oak savanna, floodplain and prairie.

A composting toilet is available at the trailhead. Open daily, year-round.
