When you give your time, you are strengthening Fontenelle Forest’s ability to connect our community to nature. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Nature Ambassador

Fontenelle Forest’s Education Department is seeking volunteers to engage with guests by hosting curated interpretive pop-up stations! Utilize a prepared assortment of materials from our collections room to spark a deeper interest in connecting to the natural world. Topics include Fontenelle’s Trading Post, snapping turtles, and butterflies/moths.

This adaptable position is perfect for folks who are looking for a flexible, nature-oriented volunteer opportunity. Stations may be set up indoors or outdoors, depending on weather conditions and volunteer preference.

VIEW VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 18
  • Ability to volunteer at least one hour quarterly
  • Good communication with Forest staff and guests of all ages and backgrounds
  • Willing and able to stand, walk, and perform minor physical labor as needed

 

Internal Project Volunteer

Fontenelle Forest’s Education Department is seeking volunteers to assist our educators behind the scenes! Existing and potential projects include:

  • Collecting, preserving, and/or organizing storage of natural materials  
  • Maintaining/implementing organization in our program material storage areas  
  • Cataloguing/organizing reference materials (i.e. field guides, bookshelves, etc.)  

This volunteer position does not require direct contact and communication with guests. 

VIEW VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 18
  • Ability to volunteer at least two hours quarterly
  • Good organizational skills 
  • Willing and able to stand, walk, and perform minor physical labor as needed

 

Habitat Hollow Volunteer

Fontenelle Forest’s Education Department is seeking volunteers to maintain and enhance our indoor exploration space – Habitat Hollow! We hope that this volunteer position will foster a sense of community and agency in this public space. This position is open to folks of all ages, including minors accompanied by an adult.

This volunteer position does not require direct contact and communication with guests. 

VIEW VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 18
  • Minors may volunteer if accompanied by a parent/guardian who is 18+
  • Ability to volunteer regularly, at least monthly
  • Willing and able to stand, walk, and perform fine motor tasks in an indoor setting

 

Public Programming Volunteer

Fontenelle Forest’s Education Department is seeking volunteers to assist with a variety of public programs. These programs include:

  • Full Moon Hikes  
  • Seniors Understanding Nature (SUN)   
  • Winter Wellness   
  • Family Adventure Day  
  • Pathways Through Nature  
  • Winter Wonderland 

This volunteer position requires direct contact and communication with guests.

VIEW VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 18
  • Ability to volunteer at least two hours quarterly
  • Willing and able to stand and traverse/ascend/descend dirt trails, uneven, and hilly terrain, and walking paths for up to two hours, as needed 

 

Youth Programming Volunteer

Fontenelle Forest’s Education Department is seeking volunteers to assist with a variety of youth education programs, including:

  • Mudpies, our preschool program
  • Acorn Academy, our homeschool program
  • School Programs
  • Summer Camps

This volunteer position requires direct contact and communication with students and/or campers.

VIEW VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 18
  • Ability to volunteer regularly for chosen program (program frequency varies)
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and complete Abuse Awareness Training
  • Willing and able to stand and traverse/ascend/descend dirt trails, uneven, and hilly terrain, and walking paths for up to one hour at a time, as needed
