Seniors Understanding Nature: Rooted in the Midwest – The Herbs and Plants of the American Plains Indian Nations
October 27, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

What’s the point of burning sweetgrass? Grinding up purple coneflower? Eating prairie turnips?
Learn about these plants and their cultural significance with Shannon Smith, Education Technician from the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail! Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery would’ve surely perished before reaching the Pacific without the assistance and knowledge of the many Native American tribes they encountered. In this hour-long presentation, we’ll explore some of the herbs and plants introduced to the Lewis and Clark Expedition by the Lakota Sioux and other Great Plains tribes they encountered on their journey.
Maximum of 200 people. No registration is required.
This event is free for members or with daily admission.
